Texas Vitex, also called Chaste Tree, is one of the best flowering small trees for North Texas. It delivers long-lasting purple blooms during the hottest part of summer when many other plants struggle.

Best Area to Plant

Location:

  • Accent tree in front yards
  • Pollinator gardens
  • Near patios for summer color

Placement:

Thrives in full sun and is extremely heat-tolerant. Fast establishment within 1-3 years. Don’t plant too close to foundation, narrow walkways, pools.  Minimum space 8 feet.

Care Instructions

  • Light:

    Requires full sun.

  • Water:

    Very low water needs once established. Requires excellent drainage.

  • Maintenance:

    Minimal. Avoid heavy pruning to preserve its natural shape. Winter pruning encourages best floral blooms in spring.
