Mystic Spires Blue is a compact, improved salvia known for its rich violet blue flower spikes and long bloom season. It delivers continuous color from spring through fall in North Texas and attracts bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. Its upright growth habit provides vertical interest while maintaining a neat, manageable size compared to larger salvias.

Best Area to Plant

Location:

Front of flower beds, cascading over retaining walls, along walkways, slopes for erosion control, or massed as a colorful groundcover.

Placement:

Thrives in full sun. In North Texas, it performs best in well drained areas and is excellent for hot, reflected heat zones such as driveways and sidewalks. Works beautifully in residential entry beds where bold seasonal color is desired without high maintenance.

Care Instructions

  • Light:

    Requires full sun for best bloom performance. Minimum 6–8 hours daily.

  • Water:

    Moderate water during establishment. Once established, it is drought tolerant but benefits from deep watering during extended summer heat. Allow soil to dry between watering cycles.

  • Soil:

    Prefers well drained soil. Tolerates sandy or amended clay soils but does not like soggy conditions.

  • Pruning:

    Light shear after heavy bloom cycles to encourage fresh growth and repeat flowering. Trim back in late winter to rejuvenate before spring growth begins.

  • Fertilizer:

    Light feeding in early spring with balanced slow release fertilizer. Avoid over fertilizing, which can reduce flowering.
