Fluffy blue blooms that butterflies love
Blue Mistflower is a hardy perennial that handles North Texas summers and keeps its color when many flowers fade. Clusters of fuzzy blue-purple blooms appear in late summer and fall, a welcome shot of color when the garden slows down.
It spreads gently to fill in beds and is a favorite of butterflies and bees, which makes it a good choice for pollinator-friendly yards.
Best Area to Plant
Location:
- Sunny to part-shade flower beds
- Pollinator and butterfly gardens
- Along fences and foundation plantings
- Naturalized areas and rain-garden edges
Placement:
Plant in full sun to part shade, about 18 to 24 inches apart. It does best where it gets a little extra moisture, so it works well near downspouts or drip lines. It can spread by runners, so give it room and keep it away from small, delicate plants.
Care Instructions
-
Light:
Full sun to part shade. Afternoon shade helps in the hottest part of summer.
-
Water:
Needs moderate water, especially in the first year and during dry summer stretches. It tolerates short dry spells but looks best with regular watering.
-
Maintenance:
Cut it back by about half in early summer for a fuller plant and more blooms. Cut to the ground in winter, and divide clumps every few years if it spreads too far.
