A Classic Mounding Evergreen

Indian Hawthorne is a sturdy, slow-growing evergreen shrub that is a staple in Southern landscapes.
It forms a natural, neat mound of leathery, dark green leaves. In spring, it is completely covered in clusters of fragrant white or pink flowers, followed by small blue- black berries that birds enjoy in the winter.

Best Area to Plant

Location:

Foundation plantings, low hedges, or massed as a structural groundcover.

Placement:

It thrives in full sun to part shade. In North Texas, it is often used in commercial and residential entryways because it stays low enough not to block windows and maintains a tidy look year-round.

Care Instructions

  • Light:

Full sun yields the best blooms and densest foliage.

  • Water:

Moderate until established; quite drought- tolerant thereafter.

  • Maintenance:

Very low. It rarely needs pruning because of its slow growth and natural mounding habit.

  • Tip:

Look for varieties labeled "Entomosporium resistant" to avoid the common leaf spot fungus that can affect these shrubs during very wet Texas springs.
